Seriously flawed design, 27 Oct 2011
This review is from: Jacob Jensen cordless door bell (Electronics)

The designers of this product claim to have many awards for their “original, simple and classic design”. Well I think this cordless doorbell is badly designed with serious flaws.

The door bell push has to be prised apart to access the battery compartment. The process is made to look easy, but it is very fiddly and users are likely to damage the casing while struggling with the tiny plastic clip which is stiff and inaccessible. Once the doorbell push has been mounted on the wall the process is well nigh impossible.

The fitting instructions show two watch batteries to be placed in the bell push, but no indication of which way round they should be fitted.

The chime has to be wall mounted, but the provisions for fitting render it insecure. There are just two screws about 57mm apart, from which the unit hangs, so it would be easy to knock it off the wall. As there is no provision to adjust the position and secure the unit, it is likely to hang skewed.

It is reasonable to expect such an expensive product to come with a cradle that could be easily and securely mounted. The unit could then be clipped into the cradle and easily removed for battery replacement and so on. But no thought has been given to this.

The unit has provision for power from a transformer, which is not provided, as an alternative to batteries. Heaven help anyone who decides to use a transformer. First they must get the right one, then they must find a cable with the right plug on the end to fit the socket provided on the chime. The dimensions of the plug are provided, the diameter, length and so on. Then they would have to marry up the plug with the transformer, as most come with their own plug fitted, this would mean cutting the wire.

Finally one would end up with a wire trailing down the wall as the cable route exits through the bottom of the chime unit on the surface of the wall.

I have fitted mine, and it works. However I am concerned about the bell push. I think that maybe it will work intermittently, since the battery terminal connectors do not make a good contact.

I expected a much better design, this is just form without function.

At last one that really works!, 10 May 2011

This one works not like the other ones I have tried! Good loud ring and you can rely on it working.
Don’t waste money on cheap wireless bells. It does what it says on the box.
